At Expo 2025 Osaka, emotion takes center stage. Under the Midnight Rainbow is not just a show, but the Expo’s most unifying ritual: every evening, up to 2,500 guests leave behind the pavilions to converge around the Water Plaza. By Day 79, the Expo had already welcomed 10 million visitors, with the nightly gathering becoming a highlight of the experience.

Under the Midnight Rainbow: A MOMENT TO GATHER

Every night, Under the Midnight Rainbow transforms the Water Plaza into the emotional centerpiece of Expo 2025 Osaka. Up to 2,500 visitors gather under the open sky to share a collective 25-minute ritual blending light, water, fire, and multimedia artistry. At its heart stands a monumental 18-meter Vertical Arch with a 200 m² cascade screen©, framed by two massive water screens and visible from across the entire Expo site. Designed by ECA2 under the creative direction of Naoki Tanaka. Drawing on Japanese and French creative legacies and inspired by the animism, anime and manga. It creates a distinctive emotional language without relying on narration. Inclusive by design, it is accessible to all generations transcending cultures and languages. More than a nightly highlight, Under the Midnight Rainbow redefines what public shows can achieve, transforming entertainment into a beacon of unity, reflection and shared purpose at the heart of Expo2025.
